Who We Are
We’re really just a group of friends who love to dance and share the love of dancing with others. We gathered for our first dance in the winter of 2021; we were a small group at the time, but had the same desire – to spend an evening in community dancing traditional dances. It just so happened we were in a barn loft. Thus, The Barn Dance Society was born.
We’ve grown significantly since that time; hosting monthly dances in the barn and specialty formals at various venues in the local area. We also teach and call dances and have had the opportunity to serve at weddings, formals, and private events.
We have one goal in mind – spread the joy of Christ through traditional dance with other young people, and build fellowship and community. We do hope you join our society.
Meet the Callers
Eric
Hey, I’m Eric, known as the “Beloved Tyrant”, and I am one of the three primary callers in The Barn Dance Society. For our group, I help keep things rolling and run most of the music. I have been participating and leading dances for close to two decades, starting out with square dancing and waltzing when I was young. I joined The Barn Dance Society during the third meeting and apparently proceeded not to smile for 4 months. I’ve been warmed up now though! I’m an electrical engineer who enjoys reading and I’ve played violin for about 23 years.
Mekenzie
Hey y’all! My name’s Mekenzie (fondly dubbed “Her Majesty”) and I’ve had the joy and privilege to call dances and play the fiddle for The Barn Dance Society. What started as a small group of young adults dancing in my family’s barn loft has grown bigger than we could have ever imagined! Outside of dancing, I am a high school youth group leader, a barista, and a student pursuing my bachelor’s! My passion has grown from since the beginning, to continue old-world traditions and dance through this next generation of young people, and I am looking forward to joining you at your next big event!
Hope
Hey, Everyone! I’m Hope, but at the barn dances I’m known as “The Commander.” Ive been the main caller here at The Barn Dance Society since our very first dance and I have loved it ever since! In my time not spent dancing, I enjoy teaching Sunday school, baking all kinds of treats, and to top it all off, I am a licensed hair stylist! It is my passion to help folks learn and preserve this amazing form of dance that brings so many together, young and old alike. I can’t wait to teach at your next event!
